Hobonichi Techo Cousin Book and Cover, A5, Makoto Matsubayashi: Pink Flowers

This techo cover features a drawing by printmaker and artist Makoto Matsubayashi, who is based in Kochi Prefecture.

Using crayons with bold, free-flowing strokes, Matsubayashi illustrated a large, blooming flower.  The fabric is a smooth polyester with a bright pink base color. The flower is printed in white ink, while silver lines stretch vertically and horizontally across the surface—faithfully recreating Matsubayashi’s original drawing. Even the subtle textures, like the unevenness of the lines, are carefully reproduced to retain the hand-drawn feel of the artwork.

The interior features the same pink color as the cover. On the upper part of the right-side, you’ll find two flowers printed in white ink. There’s also an outer back pocket for quickly slipping things in and out, and if you peek inside, you’ll spot another printed flower tucked within.
